Anand Kumar is an Indian mathematics educator best known for his "Super 30" programme, which he started in Patna, Bihar, in 2002. Born into a lower-middle-class family, he attended a Hindi-medium government school where he developed a deep passion for mathematics. Despite securing admission to Cambridge University, he could not attend due to his father's sudden death and lack of funds.
To support his family, he sold papads in the evenings while teaching math during the day. This struggle inspired him to start Super 30, a program that selects 30 meritorious students from economically underprivileged sections every year and trains them for the IIT-JEE entrance exam completely free of cost. His mother, Jayanti Devi, used to cook for the students, and his brother, Pranav, managed the administration. His life was the subject of the 2019 Bollywood film Super 30, starring Hrithik Roshan.
