Biography Details

Born in 1943 in Kerala, G. Madhavan Nair studied engineering and joined India’s emerging space programme during its development phase. He became a key leader in launch vehicle engineering, helping build the strength of PSLV and GSLV rockets.

 

 

As ISRO Chairman, he launched Chandrayaan-1 (2008), which confirmed the presence of water molecules on the Moon — one of India’s most internationally celebrated scientific findings.

 

 

He also strengthened India’s satellite networks in communications, Earth observation and navigation services, contributing to national security, agriculture, disaster management, and digital connectivity.

 

 

After completing his ISRO tenure, he continued to advise on space technology, innovation, and national policy.
