Born in Tamil Nadu in 1958, Mylswamy Annadurai grew up with a great interest in science and technology. After studying engineering in Coimbatore, he joined ISRO and became one of the most influential satellite mission architects in India.
He was a key leader of Chandrayaan-1, India’s first lunar mission, which confirmed the presence of water molecules on the Moon. Later, he served as a senior mission leader for Mangalyaan, India’s first Mars mission, which made global history by reaching Mars on its first attempt at low cost.
Beyond deep-space missions, he contributed to numerous communication and Earth-observation satellites that benefit agriculture, education, tele-medicine and disaster management.
After retiring from ISRO, he continues to travel widely, inspiring millions of students with his message that science belongs to everyone and India’s space future is in the hands of young innovators.
