Born on August 8, 1949, in Jackson Heights, New York, he started investing at the age of 12 by buying shares of Northeast Airlines. After completing his MBA from Harvard Business School, he founded Bridgewater Associates in 1975 from his two-bedroom apartment in New York City. The firm became the world’s largest hedge fund, pioneering risk-parity and “radically transparent” management practices.
