Biography Details

Born on March 4, 1983, in Acton, Massachusetts, Drew Houston exhibited an early passion for technology. His father, an engineer, and his mother, a librarian, fostered an environment rich in learning and curiosity. Drew's fascination with computers led him to teach himself programming during his teenage years. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he pursued a degree in Computer Science. It was here that he met Arash Ferdowsi, with whom he would later co-found Dropbox. The idea for Dropbox was born out of Drew's frustration with carrying USB drives and emailing files to himself. This led to the creation of a cloud-based file storage solution that would revolutionize the way people access and share data. Since its inception in 2007, Dropbox has grown exponentially, serving hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Under Drew's leadership, the company went public and expanded its services beyond file storage to include collaboration tools. In addition to his role at Dropbox, Drew joined Facebook's board of directors in 2020, contributing his expertise to one of the world's largest tech companies. Facebook Newsroom Outside of his professional endeavors, Drew is known for his philanthropic efforts and advocacy for education and immigration reform. He co-founded FWD.us, a lobbying group aimed at promoting policies to keep the U.S. competitive in a global economy.
