Kader Khan (October 22, 1937 – December 31, 2018) was an Afghan-born Indian actor, screenwriter, and comedian who became a Bollywood legend. Born in Kabul to a Pashtun Sunni Muslim family, his family migrated to Mumbai in 1942 amid Partition-era shifts. After graduating and earning an engineering diploma, he taught Civil Engineering before entering films.

 

He debuted as an actor in Daag (1973) but gained fame as a dialogue writer for hits like Coolie. Famous for comic father roles in David Dhawan films with Govinda and Salman Khan (Judwaa, Dulhe Raja), he wrote punchy, memorable lines. Married to Azra Khan, he had sons including Sarfaraz. He passed away in Mississauga, Canada, at 81 from progressive supranuclear palsy. Posthumously awarded Padma Shri (2019), his witty dialogues and versatile performances remain iconic.
