Shabana Azmi is one of India’s most respected actresses, known for her powerful performances in parallel and mainstream cinema. Born on September 18, 1950, in Hyderabad, she is the daughter of renowned poet Kaifi Azmi and theatre actress Shaukat Azmi. After studying at Lady Shri Ram College, she trained at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

 

Shabana made her film debut in Ankur (1974), which earned her the first of many National Film Awards.
