Biography Details

Sridevi was Indian cinema's first female superstar whose career spanned over 50 years across multiple languages. Beginning as a child artist at age four in the 1967 Tamil film "Kandhan Karunai," she dominated South Indian cinema throughout the 1970s and early 1980s. Her Hindi film breakthrough came with "Himmatwala" (1983), followed by legendary performances in "Chandni," "Mr. India," "Nagina," "ChaalBaaz," and "Lamhe." Known for her

 

exceptional versatility, impeccable comic timing, and mesmerizing dance, she took a break from 1997-2012 after marriage to focus on family. Her powerful comeback in "English Vinglish" (2012) and critically acclaimed "Mom" (2017) reaffirmed her talent. Tragically, she passed away in Dubai in February 2018 due to accidental drowning. Her legacy continues through her daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, both actresses.
