Vir Das (born September 12, 1979, in Dehradun) is one of India's most successful international stand-up comedians and actors. From a Punjabi family with army & corporate background, he studied English Literature at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, before starting theatre and comedy.

 

He began with improv and theatre in Delhi and Mumbai, debuted in films (Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone, Badmaash Company), but rose to global fame with stand-up specials on Netflix: Abroad Understanding, Losing IT, For India, Landing, and The Greatest Night of His Life. He became the first Indian comedian to headline iconic venues like Madison Square Garden and Royal Albert Hall. Married to Shivani Mathur since 2020 (no children).
